Batteries

Cover the terminals of discarded batteries with adhesive tape.

Batteries are always collected separately. Batteries collection is found at following places:

  • at all stores selling batteries
  • at Stormossen’s ecopoints (Note! Batteries are not collected at Rinki ecopoints)
  • at Stormossen’s waste reception stations
  • in housing companies with collection container for batteries

Safety instructions for recycling batteries

When taking a battery out of use, place a small piece of adhesive tape over both terminals. This reduces the risk of short circuits and potential fire.

Return the battery to a collection point without delay if you notice any of the following warning signs:

  • The battery has physical damage or is visibly swollen. Lithium-ion batteries typically swell slightly during use, and this swelling may become more pronounced toward the end of their lifespan.
  • The battery has an unusual smell.
  • The battery becomes significantly hotter than usual.
  • The battery makes an unusual noise.
  • The battery is leaking.

Pack the damaged battery in an airtight plastic bag and move it to a safe location, away from any flammable materials. When returning a damaged battery to a collection point, hand it over to store staff or personnel at the collection site and inform them about your observations. Damaged batteries that are handed in to Stormossen must be taken to the waste reception stations in Kvevlax, Vaasa, Storkyro, or Lillkyro where staff are present.
